“Oh, that.”
“Yeah, that.”
I grin. “Yeah, I made a decision.” I lean across the table, wrapping my hand around his. “You’re never getting rid of me.”
His eyes widen and a slow smile unlike any other I’ve ever seen before slips across his lips. But before I can really appreciate it, he slips my ring off my hand.
“Hey!” I say, my brows pulling together. “Why did you do that?”
“I retired, remember? We have to send it back.”
My face falls. I didn’t think of that. “Oh. Right. My bad.”
His lips twist as he stands, taking my hand in his.
“What are you doing?” I ask, my heart starting to pound.
“Hush.”
“No,” I say, turning in my chair as he comes around the table. “What are you doing?”
He sighs. “Can you just not talk for a second?”
“Finn Miller, I swear to—oh. My. God.”
My eyes fill with tears because apparently, I’m a crybaby now, as Finn drops to one knee in front of me. His eyes shine with sincerity as he holds both of my hands in his.
“Poppy Quinn, I’ve loved you since the first day I saw you, I think. You’re the most beautiful, funniest, smartest woman I know. A giant pain in the ass sometimes, but it’s what makes you you.”
My lip quivers as he stares into my eyes. He said it. “You love me, Finn Miller?” I ask, wanting to hear it again.
“Yes, I love you, Poppy Quinn. And you love me.”
“Oh, I do, do I?” I giggle. Of course, I do, but it’s fun teasing him.
“Yes, you do. And we don’t really have to send your ring back,” he says, grinning. “But that ring will always be associated with our fake engagement that always felt real to me. But this one …” He releases one of my hands and pulls a Siggy’s box out of his pocket. “This one is the real deal.”
“What have you done?” I whisper in shock.
He opens the box, and the ring that I loved but thought was too much sparkles inside.
“Finn Miller!” I gasp, looking from it to him and back to it. “Tell me you didn’t buy this.”
“Okay.”
“Finn …”
“I bought this one on the day I ordered the other one,” he says softly. “Just in case this day came.”
“But this is too much. I know what this costs. I can’t … Finn. Come on.”
He chuckles. “First of all, I have a lot of money. I know you don’t pay attention to that, but I do. Your reaction to this ring was special. This is the one you wanted. This is the one you get.”
I’m in shock. He could knock me over with a feather.
“I don’t want to change one thing about you,” he says earnestly. “I just want to spend the rest of my life loving you in every way that I know how.” He searches my eyes. “Will you marry me, Poppy?”
Will I marry him?
