He laughs.
“Was that the bourbon that we had in New York?” Finn asks, taking a drink of water.
I nod. “Yeah. In the hotel bar.”
“You found it? We looked for that for, what, six months afterward?”
“I asked the guy who owns the liquor store by your house to keep an eye out for it, and he called me a few weeks ago.” I take another chip from his plate. “Spoiler—I got you one for your birthday. Don’t think I left you out.”
He smiles. “Good, because I was getting butt hurt there for a minute.”
Branch laughs, capturing my attention. I look at him across my shoulder to find him and Layla grinning.
“What?” Finn asks, taking Sunny as she starts chanting his name again. “What are you two smiling about?”
Branch shakes his head. “You two are fucking weird.”
“I’ll take that as a compliment,” I say, taking my plate to the kitchen.
“You can take it however you want,” Branch says.
Finn motions for me to get a washcloth for Sunny.
“You two act more married than we do,” Layla says, as I pop over to the laundry room and nab a towel for the baby.
“Except we’re not having sex.” I come back into the room and moisten the cloth, ignoring the look Finn’s firing my way. “I bet you two are …” I glance at Sunny. Watch your language around the baby. I grimace. Yet another reason why having a kid might not be good for me. “Doing that a lot more than we are.”
“And they probably let the other be nice to them, too.” Finn lifts a brow, taking the washcloth from me. “Don’t you think?”
I hum as if I’m pondering his question—and maybe I am. Because I like it when he’s nice to me. I probably like it more than I should. But there’s a difference between letting someone take care of you and letting them see you bleed.
Branch and Layla watch us with bated breath, and I’m not sure what to say. But I gotta say something because Finn’s smirk grows a little more with each passing second.
I take my seat, lifting my foot to Finn’s crotch—getting the briefest wide-eyed response, and smiling.
“I’ll be as nice to you as you want me to be,” I say, staring at him. “Just say when.”
He lets his attention linger on me long enough to make me so hot that I nearly melt in the chair. Then he sets his sights on Sunny and her mashed potato face.
Branch and Layla lose interest in us and banter back and forth about taking a vacation during the winter. I watch Finn clean Sunny’s mess and wonder how he does it.
How does he leave me wanting him so badly, but still feeling so good?
That’s the magic of Finn Miller, I guess.
I really like him as a person, which made the friends-with-benefits arrangement work for both of us. Even better, I know he thinks of me as a friend, too.
But that doesn’t mean we can be any more than that.

Finn
I place my finger on the pad beside the door and wait for it to buzz me in.
The sights and sounds of the Legends facilities welcome me as I step inside. Staff scurry down the hall, from one office to another. Some give me a wave or a hello, and others are too busy with their nose in their devices to look up.
