“I need to go. Call or text me when you get home so I know you made it.”

“Will do. Love you.”

“Love you. Bye.”

I end the call and head back to my seat, a bit less edgy than when I left it. Life is always more manageable once I’ve spoken to Layla. And she loves it when I gift her with my jumbled thoughts, whether she admits it or not.

“Feeling better?” Sam asks as I move my bag and take my seat.

“A little.”

He nods and goes back to his crossword.

I start to put my phone away when it vibrates again.

Finn: The weirdest thing happened to me today.

I smile as my fingers fly over the keys.

Me: Really?

Finn: I had a dream that I was driving in the pouring rain. I looked over and saw the hottest woman sitting next to me. How weird is that?

Me: Sounds very, very weird.

Finn: Did I tell you that it’s raining here today?

Me: You didn’t. I wondered where this dream intersected with reality.

Finn: It hasn’t yet, but it will at, say, ten o’clock tonight in front of the baggage claim.

You charming bastard.

I’m not sure if Layla called her brother, or if he happened to be at her house while she and I were talking. Either way, I’m not surprised to learn that he found out I’m taking a ride service home and isn’t happy about it.

Me: Good luck. I’ll wave at you if I see you.

Finn: You can do a lot more than that since your ass will be in the passenger’s seat.

Me: I don’t need a ride, but thanks.

Finn: Yes, you do.

Me: No, I don’t.

Finn: You’re going to get home late, so you’ll be sleepy and irritable. And I know you, so I know you haven’t eaten much today, and I guarantee you’re dehydrated.

I narrow my eyes at the screen and try not to grin.

Me: So?

Finn: So, there’s no reason to put someone else through that torture. I’ll be there.

Me: Finn …

Finn: I’ll bring you a snack.

Me: Like a double cheeseburger with no onion?
