No Need to Hide

She gives me a long look, then slowly walks away.

I turn to my large hitman, a smile curling my lips.

I can’t believe he’s still unconscious.

My gaze drops to his bloody shirt.

Focus.

You need to treat that wound.

I squint at the YouTube video, then pause the screen again.

Hopefully, I’m doing this right.

I cut the remaining thread from the stitches just the way the video showed, admiring my work.

The door flies open, and Violet comes into the room.

“I thought you left?”

“You stitched him?” she asks at the same time.

I gesture at my work proudly. “Cleaned, stitched, and now I’m going to bandage him.”

Violet steps closer. “Where did you learn to do that?”

“YouTube,” I say proudly.

Her eyes get so big, I can see the whites all the way around them. “You stitched a man you barely know… using a YouTube video?”

“Yup.”

“Oh, dear God, Callie.”

“What?” I peel open the bandage. “I wore gloves and everything.”

“That’s not…” She stares at me, baffled. “… the point.”

I shrug. “He should probably have a doctor look at it. But this way, he won’t keep bleeding on his suit.”

I smooth the bandage over the skin while Violet leans over my shoulder, watching.

His eyelids flutter.

She glances down. “Speaking of suits… Should we take his pants off?”

His eyes fly open, whiskey irises locking with mine.

“Oh, good. You’re awake.” I grin at him. “And you’re not dead.”

He glances down at his bare chest.

I had unbuttoned his shirt and pushed it and his jacket aside as far as I could. Lord knows I couldn’t get either one off him while he was lying down.

He studies the bandage on his ribs. “What did you do to me?”

“I stitched you. Well, technically YouTube stitched you. I just followed instructions.”
