Pure instinct makes my arm wrap around her waist.
I turn, pulling her against me so she falls on top of me. Blonde hair covers my face.
I push it back to see if she’s hurt.
She smiles at me. “Hi.”
I stare at her.
Meanwhile, my brain is screaming at me.
Get. Up.
“You have really nice arms.”
I look down at my arms. “I’m a bloody mess wearing a suit. You can barely even see them.”
“I feel them. Quite muscular.”
Jesus Christ.
I’m annoyed... yet... something about her is so attractive.
Focus.
You were stabbed.
You need to leave.
You need a doctor.
You do not need to keep noticing her green eyes.
Dammit.
“Too bad I didn’t get a close-up photo of your forearm. I could probably come from the veins in it alone.”
Oh, God. Why is she talking about coming when she’s on top of me?
I try not to react, but against my will, a tiny smirk appears.
Callie gasps. “You smiled.”
“I did not.”
“You totally did.”
“No. I didn’t—”
“I made the scary hitman smile!”
Goddamn. Why do I like that I made her happy?
I’ve got to get out of here before I do something stupid.
Like kiss her.
Instead, I help her to her feet.
