By the time she nearly took out the cracker display, I was fighting a smile.
Then she grabbed hemorrhoid cream in the medicine aisle and loudly informed an elderly woman that she didn’t have hemorrhoids.
I had to turn the corner before I laughed.
Fuck. I haven't had this much fun grocery shopping in my entire life.
That's a sentence I never thought I'd think.
I finally started walking again.
She followed.
I could've ended it at any point. Turned around and said her name. Told her to go home.
Or even lost her.
Instead, I let her keep following me.
That's the part I don't want to examine too closely.
Chaos thinks she's getting better at stalking.
And she is.
What she doesn't know is that I'm starting to enjoy being stalked.
I left the store, tossed my groceries in the passenger seat, and climbed into my truck. I told myself to go home and put them away. I don’t need to see her. Or talk to her. I already spent an entire grocery trip watching her nearly destroy half the store.
But when I saw her in the grocery store parking lot, I couldn’t resist.
I texted her first.
It was stupid.
Telling her about the cantaloupe was worse.
Now she knows I let her follow me. She knows I was playing along. And she's going to use that against me.
Her text is burned into my brain.
You like when I stalk you.
My mouth twitches. “No, I fucking don't.”
I parked where she couldn’t see me and waited until Callie was safely in the gray Toyota Corolla before heading home.
I don’t recognize the Corolla. Knowing Chaos, she probably fucking rented it.
I’m almost home when my phone rings.
I glance down. Bishop.
The smile disappears.
I grab my phone and answer. “Yeah.”
“I have something for you.”
