My head snaps to hers.
She freezes with one hand inside. “What?”
“Stop.”
“I was just getting out a snack.”
“You're making noise.”
Very carefully, she pulls out a package of gummy bears. Then whispers, “Better?”
“No.”
She opens them with the concentration of someone defusing a bomb. The plastic crinkles.
I glare at her.
She freezes. Then slowly slides the package under her jacket and finishes opening it there.
I give her a withering look.
She pulls it back out and smiles triumphantly.
I look away before she sees mine.
A gummy bear appears in front of my face. “No.”
She wiggles it.
“I'm not eating a fucking gummy bear.”
She puts it in her mouth. “Your loss.”
I glare at her again.
“You sure you don’t want one?”
“No. But you’re fucking chewing.”
Her brows raise. “How else am I supposed to eat it?”
“At home. Where you don’t need to be quiet.”
She leans back in the seat. “I’m chewing quietly.”
I just stare at her.
“You’re funny.”
Jesus Christ.
She needs to get the fuck out of here. Callie being anywhere near Mercer is unacceptable. With all the noise she’s making, he’ll likely come out the damn door and see her.
I should start the truck, drive her back to her car, and end this.
But I don't.
Removing her now would create more movement than leaving her beside me.
