Walter growls, making Callie laugh harder.
Gracie finishes our coffee and slides them across the counter. She gives me the total, and I immediately grab my wallet and pay.
“Sorry he bit you.” Gracie swipes my card. “We’re still working on that.”
“Pull his three teeth. That’ll—ow!” I rub the spot on my arm where Callie just punched me.
“You did not just threaten Walter like that.”
“Nice hit,” I say, impressed.
She ignores my comment. “Walter is sweet.”
I raise my brows. “If you say so.”
She hugs Walter again, then puts him down. He immediately walks over to Alibi. They sniff one another, their tails wagging. At least the grumpy old bastard doesn’t bite our dog.
Fuck. Her dog.
I hand her the coffee, then grab the bag that Gracie pushes toward me.
Callie’s green eyes glimmer with happiness. “You just bought our mugs.”
I look at the bag. Then at the receipt Gracie handed me.
Fuck.
“Let’s go.”
Callie waves at Gracie, who’s unsuccessfully trying to hide her laughter.
“See you soon,” Gracie says as I push the door open.
Not if I can help it.
The second I turn onto my street, I see the truck parked in front of my house.
“Fuck.”
Callie looks up from her coffee. “What?”
“Mapquest.”
Her entire face lights up. “You mean Beck is here?”
“That’s what I said.”
“No, you said Mapquest.” She twists in her seat to get a better look. “This is exciting.”
“There is nothing exciting about Beckett.”
“He knows why your nickname is Hot Lips.”
My hands tighten around the steering wheel. “Don’t ask him.”
“Okay.”
I glance at her. She's smiling.
