“Oh, fuck it.”

I open the passenger door. He launches himself at me, tail wagging furiously. I catch him against my chest.

“Fucking dog.”

Smoke laughs. “You're really good at this.”

“Shut up.”

I put Alibi down and clip on his leash.

The front door opens. Bishop steps outside. His gaze goes to Smoke, then me, then to the dog.

I know that look. “Don’t start.”

Bishop looks at me. “I didn't say anything.”

“Good. Keep it that way.”

Smoke makes a sound suspiciously close to a laugh.

Bishop walks down the steps. “You’re the cousin?”

Smoke folds his arms. “I have a name.”

Bishop looks at him. “Smoke.”

“That's not my name.”

“It's the one everyone uses.”

Smoke stares at him. Bishop stares back.

This should be interesting.

Alibi walks over and sniffs Bishop's shoe, then sits on his foot.

I close my eyes. “Of course.”

Bishop looks at me. “Yours?”

“No.”

Smoke answers before I can say anything else. “His girlfriend's.”

Bishop's eyes return to me.

“She's not my girlfriend.”

Smoke snorts.

Bishop says nothing.

“Fuck both of you.”

“I didn't say anything,” Bishop says.

“You didn't have to.”
