My eyes slowly pop open. I nearly groan aloud. My head hurts.

I don’t know where I am. Or what happened. Just that my head fucking hurts.

I keep my eyes closed.

Something vibrates beneath me.

There's a low hum. A steady rumble. Movement. My stomach rolls.

For a few seconds, none of it makes sense.

Then everything comes back at once.

The restroom.

The door opening.

Mercer.

His arm around me.

Something covering my mouth and nose.

My purse hitting the floor.

I'm lying across the back seat of a vehicle. Gray upholstery. Dark windows. Trees flash past the glass.

I'm moving.

No.

We're moving.

Panic slams into me so hard I almost sit straight up.

I stop myself.

Don't move.

Don't let him know you're awake.

My heart pounds against my ribs.

I breathe slowly through my nose. Or try to. My head feels like someone filled it with wet cement, and my mouth tastes awful.

I move my eyes without moving my head.

One person is in the front seat.

Dark hair. Broad shoulders.
