I swallow hard.
Don't throw up.
Don't stop.
Just get out of here.
Violet has to know I'm gone by now.
A strange laugh escapes me.
Roman’s looking for me. I know it.
“He’s definitely losing his mind.”
I keep walking.
The road sign gets closer.
The letters blur.
I blink hard.
Finally they sharpen.
MILLER ROAD.
Okay. Remember that.
Miller Road.
I look at the intersecting road.
Another sign.
I move closer.
My head pounds with every step.
OLD QUARRY ROAD
Miller and Old Quarry.
I repeat it quietly.
I turn away from the wreck, pick a direction, and start walking. I don't know if it's the right one, but standing beside the vehicle with an unconscious murderer seems like a particularly bad life choice.
My legs get steadier after the first few minutes.
Good. They’re less likely to dump me onto the pavement.
I keep going.
I need a house.
A car.
A person.
