Violet is standing outside the restroom with a police officer. The second she sees me, she moves. “Roman.”

“Where?”

She points.

The officer steps between us. “Sir, you can't⁠—”

“Let him through.” Violet's voice cracks.

The officer looks at her.

“That's Callie's⁠—”

She stops. Her eyes meet mine.

I don't know what she was about to call me. Boyfriend. Hitman. Psychopathic stalker she accidentally adopted.

Doesn't matter.

“He was with her before she got here,” she finishes.

The officer looks at me. “You dropped her off?”

“Yes.”

“What time?”

“Three thirty-seven.”

“You sure?”

“Yes.”

He pulls out a notebook and takes my name and number.

That’s all I give him before I move.

“Sir—”

Bishop steps in.

I don't hear what he says, but a moment later, the officer moves aside.

I enter the restroom and see Callie's purse on the floor near the sinks. It’s open. Her phone is still inside.

Violet comes in behind me.

My jaw locks. “That's where you found it?”

“Yes.”

“Anything missing?”

“I don't know.”
