She stops in front of me and loops her arms around my neck.

I put my hands on her waist. My eyes drop to her mouth.

“Are we still going to the party?” she asks.

“No.”

She laughs. “Yes, we are.”

“We told everyone we'd be there.”

I almost smile.

I pull her closer. She rises onto her toes and kisses me.

For a second, I forget about the small box in my pocket.

Then Callie's hand slides down my chest, toward my pocket.

I catch her wrist.

She freezes.
