She laughs through her tears.
“I told you I was going to be Callie McConnell.”
“That's not an answer.”
“Yes!” She launches herself at me.
“Fuck.” I barely get the ring box out of the way before she hits me.
My knee leaves the floor. My arm wraps around her.
Alibi loses his fucking mind.
Callie laughs, cries, and kisses my face.
“Hold still.”
“You hold still.”
“I'm trying to put the fucking ring on you.”
“Oh.”
She immediately shoves her left hand in my face.
I laugh. “Jesus Christ.”
“Put it on.”
“I'm trying.”
I finally slide the ring onto her finger.
She stares at it, then at me. Her face crumples.
“Don't.”
“I'm happy!”
“I know.”
She throws her arms around my neck again. I hold her.
Alibi barks at our feet.
My phone vibrates on the counter.
Callie pulls back. Her eyes narrow. “Who keeps texting you?”
“No one.”
She reaches around me before I can stop her and grabs my phone.
“Callie.”
She looks at the screen, then slowly looks at me. “Beck knew?”
“Give me the phone.”
