My eyes open again.

The cabin is silent. Painfully fucking silent. I glance at the clock. It’s 8:17 p.m. on Halloween night.

People are probably home with their kids after a successful night of trick-or-treating. Or still at the Hollow Creek Halloween Festival.

A certain blonde in a cat suit fills my mind. I shake my head, pushing her away.

I blow out a frustrated breath. I’m stuck here, in this fucking cabin, because Bishop thinks I can't be trusted.

I sit up carefully. Pain pulls along my side. "Fuck."

Dr. Pierce warned me about that. Apparently, getting stabbed and then behaving like I hadn't been wasn't medically recommended.

Who knew?

Chaos probably would've agreed.

I rub a hand over my face. It hasn’t even been twenty-four fucking hours since I left her house. There's no reason I should be thinking about her. None.

We fucked. That's it.

It was a one-night stand. A very good one, but still, a one-night stand.

My dick twitches.

“Don't.”

I grit my teeth.

I'm talking to my own dick now.

Bishop will be thrilled to hear how well the isolation is going.

I get off the bed and walk into the kitchen. A bottle of whiskey sits in the cabinet. I stare at it. Then at the bottle of antibiotics Pierce left on the counter.

Fuck my life.

I grab a bottle of water instead. The refrigerator is stocked. Bishop had someone bring enough food to keep me alive for at least a week.

Apparently, he doesn't trust me enough to enter a grocery store without murdering someone, getting stabbed, or finding the blonde and fucking her.

I twist the cap off and take a drink.

I walk into the living room and drop onto the couch. The television plays some horror movie I’ve seen before. I have the volume turned so low I can barely hear it. Doesn’t matter. I haven't watched more than five consecutive minutes.

I blankly stare at the fire.

There's nothing wrong with the cabin. I've stayed here before. It's secluded. Private. Secure.

Exactly the kind of place I normally prefer.

But tonight, it feels like a fucking prison.

I reach for the remote and change the channel. Another horror movie.

Boring.

I change it. The news is on.
