I answer. "What?"
"Happy Halloween, Hot Lips."
I hang up.
The phone rings again.
I decline it.
He calls me again.
I decline it again.
It immediately rings.
I stare at the screen.
Persistent asshole.
I answer. “What the fuck do you want?”
“I wanted to make sure you weren't lonely.”
“I'm not lonely.”
“Really? Because you sound lonely.”
“I always sound like this.”
“True.”
I hear noise behind him. Music. People talking.
“Where are you?”
There's a pause. Then the bastard starts laughing.
“What?”
“Nothing.”
“Mapquest,” I growl.
“I'm in town.”
My grip tightens on the phone. “Why?”
“Because unlike you, I'm allowed to leave my house.”
“Cabin. And it’s not mine.”
“Prison. Whatever.”
I hear a woman laugh somewhere near him. Then someone screams.
I straighten. “What was that?”
“Relax. Just a Halloween attraction.”
