“Your husband is a very lucky man.”
“Oh. I’m not married.”
“Engaged?”
“Not yet. But I hope to be soon.” A frustrated sigh escapes me. “If I could find him.”
She blinks. “Is he lost?”
“I’m afraid so.”
“Well, maybe I can help.”
I perk up. “Really?”
“What’s he look like?”
“Well, he’s tall. Has dark hair. Broad shoulders.”
She stares at me blankly.
“I have pictures.”
“Oh, that’ll be helpful.”
I pull my phone from my back pocket. “He looks like he hasn’t had fun since 2009.” I show her the picture.
“Oh. Very handsome. And broody.” She pats my hand. “My husband was broody, too.”
“Was?”
“He passed away two years ago. I still miss him.”
I put an arm around her shoulders and pull her close. “I’m sorry.”
“Thank you, dear.”
I nod. “Of course.”
“We had a long, very happy marriage.” She gives me a wistful smile, then glances at the picture again.
“I’ll make it my mission to keep an eye out for him.”
“You will?”
“Of course. I’d love to help you find your future husband.”
I throw my arms around her and hug the petite lady tightly. “Oh, Agnes. You’re my new best friend.”
Walter barks in approval.
I step back and laugh. “Yes, Walter. We’ll try to get you a girlfriend, too.”
Agnes reaches over and pets him. “Yes. Everyone should experience true love in their lifetime.”
I picture Roman’s handsome face.
“I agree.”
