“Rachel.”
“Ah…”
“Apparently, she has a standing cinnamon roll order at the coffee shop.”
“Rachel and her cinnamon rolls. She loves those things.”
Mathias poured himself some coffee. “We had a nice talk.”
“Uh oh.”
Mathias held up a hand. “Don’t worry, I’m not going to be in Boise pining for Rachel.”
“Good.”
“I did see another side of her, though. If you take away the competitiveness and the flirting with your brothers, she’s…” He sipped his coffee. “I can see why you’ve been friends forever.”
Wilda came into the kitchen and hugged Mathias. “Good morning.”
“Are you really just waking up?”
“I’ve been awake. I was being lazy, cuddling with Caleb in bed and reading books.” She went to Milo. “Hi.”
“Good morning.”
Mathias set his cup down. “I’m going to go find my nephew, so you two can give each other a proper morning greeting.”
He left the room, and Wilda hugged Milo. “Should I have mentioned you were cuddling with us?”
“He’s probably not ready to hear that.” He kissed her.
She picked up a piece of bell pepper and ate it. “Omelets?”
“Yes.”
“I love that you cook.”
“According to Abe, all women love that.”
“I’m sure they do. That and smelling good.”
“Of course.” He added the peppers, onions, chopped ham, and shredded cheese to the eggs, then divided them between three small frying pans. “Should I scramble some eggs for Caleb?”
“You look like you have your hands full with the three omelets. I’ll give him cereal today.”
He turned to her, then pulled her in for a kiss.
“Whoa! I wasn’t gone long enough.”
Wilda stepped away from Milo and turned to Mathias and Caleb. “You two sit down. I believe breakfast is about ready.”
Mathias sat down, and Wilda brought him his coffee. Then she fixed Caleb a bowl of cereal. “Here you go, sweetheart.”
“Yummy. Mixed up Cheerios.”
Mathias looked at Wilda, and she smiled. “Multi-grain.”
“Ah.” He took a sip of his coffee.
