Lawless Sinners

That’s when I see my family name printed in black across the top of a document tucked half beneath a folder.

Everything inside me freezes.

The shower keeps running.

I glance toward the bathroom door and slide the document out.

Black Heath appears three lines down.

Then again.

And again.

The text mentions site boundaries around the docks. Acquisition schedules. A company I’ve never heard of. Debt purchase.

I turn the page, reading quickly.

A map slides out beneath it, marked in thin red lines around several areas. Small strips at first, then wider blocks, stitched around certain roads, businesses, and places close enough to the docks to make my stomach twist.

“No,” I whisper.

The shower beats harder against the tile.

I leaf through another page, then another, my fingers moving faster now.

My throat tightens when I find the Harrington Trust deed with Keira Harrington as the owner and Fionn named as legal adviser.

This is the land Alasdair stole from my family.

Behind me, Fionn returns to the room. I angle around to face him, holding the deed in my hands. His hair is wet and dark, his bare chest dripping onto a towel wrapped low around his hips.

He takes one look at me, then at the papers in my hand.

“Found anything interesting?”

My blood turns cold.

“The Harringtons are buying up Cork and Black Heath right under our noses,” I say.

His gaze holds mine. “Not the Harringtons, Sera.”

He crosses the room, unhurried, until I have to tip my head back to hold his gaze.

“Me.”

The calls I overheard and the papers I found lock together. Fionn is building power behind his father’s back, and if he ever turns it against my family, he could win.

Wanting him was dangerous before. Now it could cost me everything.

Chapter 25

Fionn

Sera stands in my bedroom, her skin marked, hair loose around her shoulders, and a deed in her hand that shouldn’t have a Tallon’s fingers on it.

Her gaze drops to the document again, to Keira’s name.

“You created this,” she says. “Didn’t ya?”
