She laughs. “Pyrce!”
“Another baby?”
“Yes.”
“You’re sure?”
“I took three tests.”
I kiss her hard, not caring that the entire pack is watching or that Rosie is once again complaining about how gross we are.
Another pup. Another little person with Elsie’s smile or her pale hair. Another child who will grow up knowing that they’re loved every moment of every day.
“When?” I ask.
“Late spring, I think.”
I set her down carefully, immediately checking her over as if something might have happened in the last thirty seconds.
“Are you feeling okay? Have you seen Christian? You shouldn’t be carrying things. Were you standing too long? You should sit down.”
“Pyrce, I’m fine.”
“You need something to eat.”
“I’ve been eating all afternoon.”
“Water?”
She cups my cheeks. “Breathe.”
I take a breath because she told me to.
Rosie appears at our side, holding a fistful of smashed cake. “What happened?”
“You’re going to be a big sister,” I tell her.
Her mouth falls open. “We’re getting a baby?”
“We are.”
“Today?”
Elsie laughs. “Not today. The baby has to grow first.”
Rosie looks at Elsie’s stomach and frowns. “Where will it sleep? My room is full.”
“We can add another room,” I say immediately.
My mate gives me an amused look. “You said that before Rosie was born. Then you built two.”
“We needed the extra space.”
“One of them is full of the toys you keep buying her.”
“She needs those.”
“She has five stuffed wolves.”
