“What?” I practically hissed as I did it.
“Oh, don’t.” She was grinning at me now, delighted. “Don’t do the face. He’s terrifying, I grant you, plus I’m not an idiot, I’ve read the same shift report you have. But look at him.” She didn’t look at him and neither did I, even though I got the feeling that he somehow knew we were talking about him. And well, it wasn’t exactly my morning for playing it cool… if ever.
“He’s about eight feet tall, he’s built like something out of a video game, and there’s ink all the way up his neck, what’s not to find attractive?”
“He’s six foot seven,” I corrected, and knew it was a mistake before I had finished saying it.
“Oh, so you have noticed then,” she replied with a cocky grin, and I gave her a wry look in return.
“It’s on his admission form. I measured him, remember, as that’s literally my job.”
“Mm,” she hummed making me groan.
“It’s on the form, Roz,” I pointed out again and she asked,
“Is there a box on there that asks if he’s hot, I can’t remember?” she teased making me snort a laugh at that before trying to mask it with an unconvincing cough.
“If you like that sort of thing,” I muttered.
“Erin,” She actually laughed. “Everybody likes that sort of thing. You would have to be dead not to… hello, tall, dark and dangerously handsome… please, girl.” I hated how right she was.
“I suppose.”
“You suppose.” She shook her head at the cart. “Honestly, I wish I’d had him. He can be nice to me any day of the week,” she said and something went through me at that, quick and hot and completely uninvited. Something that took me a full second to understand what it was.
It was jealousy.
I stood in a clinical room at eight forty in the morning holding a cup of aripiprazole and felt jealous. Jealous on behalf of a man who had spent the previous afternoon telling me that he owned me.
Jesus, there was something very wrong with me. I had known that for a while. I would just have preferred not to have it demonstrated in front of my only friend.
“I’m just saying I couldn’t tell you how tall a single one of my patients is,” she muttered, clearly not ready to let it go, until she had no choice but to.
As Mr. Tall, Dark and Dangerously Handsome was now…
Next in line.

“Oh, speaking of the sexy devil,” Roz muttered out of the side of her mouth,
“Incoming.”
I hadn’t even seen him get in the line. Which was understandable considering I had been far too busy being interrogated about the height of a man. The man I was pretending not to have any interest in. Which meant by the time I glanced up, he was already at the front of it.
Although I doubted very much that he had waited in line at all. There was a whole day room full of men in that building who couldn’t stand within six feet of him without changing direction. So, I would put money on the fact that he simply walked toward my hatch and the line came apart in front of him without one word being said about it.
I flattened both my hands against the shelf for a second to stop them from shaking before I picked up the pot.
“Good morning, little nurse.” He hummed it with a smirk, and behind me Roz went very quiet. She didn’t turn around. She kept drawing up and she kept working, but there wasn’t a chance in Hell she didn’t hear it.
“Good morning.” I held out the pot. “Aripiprazole, ten milligrams. Same as yesterday,” I said trying to sound as professional as possible, something he looked amused by. But despite whatever he may be thinking, he took it… oh and he took his time about it. But this wasn’t all he did as his fingers came down the whole length of the back of my hand. Doing so about a second and a half longer than any an accident would account for.
I shivered because of it and he felt it for himself, which transformed his smirk into a full grin as I watched his eyes move to my mouth and back up again.
