Her eyes drop.
“I thought I was doing the right thing.”
“I know.”
For a few seconds, neither of us says anything. The closet suddenly feels even smaller, with her backed against the shelves and me close enough to touch her if I wanted to.
Fuck, I want to.
But I don’t.
“If you tell me right now that you don’t want me, I’ll open that door and leave you alone. I mean it.”
Her eyes search mine.
“But don’t stand here and tell me you love me, you want me, and you’re leaving because you’ve decided future Wyatt will be better off without you.”
Another tear slips down her cheek.
I curl my fingers against my palms and keep my hands at my sides. “Let me choose you, Peachy.”
She stares at me for what feels like forever.
Then her fingers curl into the front of my shirt. “You’re so fucking stubborn.”
Relief hits me so hard I almost laugh. “Yeah, I’ve heard that.”
She pulls me down.
And kisses me.

Igrab Wyatt’s shirt and kiss him.
My fingers twist into the fabric as I pull him down, and the second his mouth meets mine, something inside me gives way.
God.
I thought I’d never get to do this again.
That realization hits almost as hard as the kiss itself. Not too long ago, I stood in my apartment and watched him walk away because I’d convinced myself losing him was somehow the right thing to do.
Now he’s here.
His mouth is warm and familiar against mine, and I kiss him harder, trying to erase everything that’s happened in the last few days.
My eyes burn again, and I refuse to cry. I’ve cried enough and there’s no reason to anymore. I know that now.
I’d much rather kiss him.
So I do.
I slide one hand around the back of his neck and press closer, until there’s no space left between us.
