“She’ll stay in my room.” Cue growled, glaring at Gent.
“At your house,” Ace snapped.
Cue jerked his head, scowling. “She can stay in my room at the clubhouse.”
“No, she can’t. This is our house. You have your own, so your ass is gonna put her up. After all, you fucking brought her here. That makes her your responsibility, Cue.”
As far as Jekyll knew, Cue was just as territorial about his own space as he was. Having a complete stranger living with him wasn’t exactly ideal. And from his tight expression, it wasn’t welcome either.
This is gonna be a fucking mess.
Cross walked up to Cue, who was visibly angry. “Get her settled and we’ll give her a week. Hopefully, earn some trust so she can help us. That means make her feel welcome, Cue.”
Gent raised his hand. “I’d be more than happy to volunteer and lead the welcome wagon.”
Cue jerked around, seething. “Shut the fuck up, Gent. And stay the fuck away from her.”
Lines were drawn, and no one missed Cue’s claim over Eden.
Chapter Twenty-Three
Imogene waited in silence in the main room of the clubhouse. Addison had tried to make small talk with Eden, but while polite, she didn’t speak much. Imogene still wasn’t sure what had happened. Cue was the first to walk out and gestured for Eden to follow him. She immediately stood, hugging the little dog to her chest and they walked out the back entrance.
She figured Jekyll would come out soon, but after fifteen minutes she headed back to his house. She purposely slowed her steps as she got closer to Cue’s house. She made no move to be inconspicuous and stared through the front window as she walked past. She could see a taller figure, presumably Cue, walking through the living room with Eden trailing a few feet behind.
When she was walking up the porch steps, she heard a door close and looked down the short street. Cue was walking toward the clubhouse with a duffle bag hooked over his shoulder. There was no sight of Eden.
She paced around the living room for another ten minutes, then Jekyll walked in.
“What’s the verdict?”
He cocked his brow, and she waved her hands impatiently. “Can Eden stay?”
“Yeah, she’ll be at Cue’s house.”
Yes!
This was the best-case scenario. Imogene rushed across the room, throwing her arms over his shoulders and taking him in for a hug. It may have seemed over the top, but it was a relief. Imogene still didn’t know the extent of it.
“Thank you.”
Jekyll scoffed. “Club decision. Don’t know how long she’ll be here, but she’s not going back to Satan’s.”
Imogene pulled away slightly but didn’t let him go. “You told me to trust you, and you’d handle it. And you did.”
It had been a long time since she’d had anyone she could count on. Jekyll came through for her. To others, it might not be much. To Imogene it was everything.
She stepped back and smiled. “Do you think she’d like to come to yoga with me and Elaine.”
Jekyll narrowed his gaze. “Let her get settled, and clear that shit with Cue.”
Imogene knitted her brows. Why would she have to ask Cue? Eden could make the choice on her own. Jekyll must’ve read her confusion and her annoyance.
He sighed and gripped his hips. “Don’t know what’s going on with the two of them, but there’s something. And Eden is Cue’s responsibility while she’s staying here. He needs eyes on her or to know where she is.” Jekyll paused. “Give him that.”
What? Something going on? As in romantic? Imogene could totally see them together. She didn’t know him well, but Cue seemed like a great guy, handsome, and obviously sweet to take in Eden. He’d also tried to protect her. And the woman was beautiful, caring, and so kind. Imogene found herself getting excited over the prospect of Cue and Eden together.
