Knot My Fate

“What are you doing?”

“A trick that worked with my brother when he didn’t want to get up.”

Unexpectedly, from underneath the sanctuary of my bedding, the irresistible aroma of rich cocoa and melted chocolate wafts over me.

My stomach rumbles.

“Are you sure that I can’t tempt you out?” Angel tries again. “The chocolate muffins are still warm from the oven.”

“We should lay down a trail.” Luca sounds serious and invested.

For the first time since Rhett left for the cookout at Cole House, my mood lightens.

I bet that Luca would do it too.

Angel isn’t as successful at holding back his laugh as I am. “We are not playing Hansel and Gretel with our Omega. Also, pretty sure getting muffin crumbs stuck in her ass and other places wouldn’t be romantic.”

“Who’s talking about romantic? It worked last month when I used marshmallows rolled in grape jelly with a skunk…”

“I am not a skunk.” I burst out of my den, sending clothes and pillows flying.

“You look like one,” Luca comments.

He is dressed in a gray flannel shirt, cargo pants, and heavy canvas jacket.

It’s probably the smartest that he has looked when not in his uniform.

I smooth down my hair.

He has a point.

“Your method worked better than mine.” Angel winks at Luca.

Luca salutes the other Alpha.

I glance between them. “Assholes.”

Angel edges around on the bed to sit with his back against the headboard.

He is also dressed smartly in a crisp blue sweater, chinos, and colorful socks.

Is it because it’s their last day with me, and they’re putting in more effort, especially after we’ve spent so much time naked?

I wish that I didn’t feel so sad…damn depressed…that I can barely get out of bed.

Angel pats his lap. “But I’m an asshole with a delicious muffin for your breakfast.”

“You’re not forgiven,” I mutter.

I still crawl into his lap and open my mouth.

I’ve learned over this month that Angel’s baking isn’t worth missing even to make a point.

Angel breaks off a piece of the gooey muffin and holds it up to my lips. I bite just hard enough to nip the tips of his fingers, and he pushes the piece into my mouth.

I sigh.

The sweet, molten muffin melts in my mouth with an edge of bitterness to the chocolate.
