This Omega likes the man she’s met…? She doesn’t want me to be smaller…?
Maybe Paige has issues with listening to what other people are saying in conversations like I have been told I do.
Most likely, she simply hasn’t spent long enough with me yet to run from me.
To abandon me.
Most people apart from Chief only want to be around me for short amounts of time.
Rhett Cole, however, isn’t like anyone else.
Chief is my Alpha.
I was sure I would never bond or become part of a pack. But Chief has earned my loyalty and obedience.
My love.
I like the relaxed way this Omega is around me, however, and I am going to enjoy it.
Why is it making me so hard that Paige is wearing my jacket? How she keeps sniffing my sleeve like she loves my scent?
Paige’s hand is still warm in mine, as she pulls me along the dark corridor.
“Where are we going?” I adjust my collar. I feel more overwhelmed in unfamiliar places, rather than safely outside surrounded by nature. This building doesn’t surround me in Rhett and Angel’s reassuring scents. I wrinkle my nose, adjusting to Paige’s unfamiliar scent of wild blackberries. “I warn you that I’m no good with surprises. If you have a secret pack hidden in here, then either they’re neglecting you, in which case, we should call Rhett because he’s better at ass kicking than I am. Or you’re an omega with a kink for kidnapping packs.” I peer down the corridor. “Am I in danger?”
Paige turns in the narrow hallway to stare at me. “I can’t tell when you’re joking.”
“I know.”
“Were you?”
“Mostly.” I blink. “But you said that you were taking me to meet your pack…”
“My memories of them. Not literally.” Paige drags me to a stop in front of a stained wooden door, taking a deep breath. “My sister boxed all their shit up. I haven’t been up here myself.” She rests her palm flat on the door like she wants to push it open but can’t bring herself to do it. “I’ve stood out here so many times wanting to go inside but I just haven’t been able to get myself to.”
I rest my palm next to hers. “We can open the door together.”
Paige’s breathing sounds loud in the small space.
She gives a sharp nod. “I’m not alone.”
Then she pushes, and the door opens.
Paige drops my hand, and I follow her up a steep staircase, which climbs into darkness.
She reaches for something, and a light springs on.
I grimace, shoving my hands into my pockets and hunching my shoulders to avoid touching the cobwebs and grimy walls.
I grit my teeth, as Paige and I clatter onto the pine boards of an attic with heavy rafters.
Close, dry heat hits me.
I freeze on the top step, as Paige wanders further into the attic.
It’s too much.
