“I’m taking you to dinner,” I rush before he can object. “It won’t be on the fourteenth, so people can speculate, but they won’t have inside information. We’ll get dressed up and go out. Dinner and a club.” I nod my head as if it’s a solid plan, but I should pick a place and make a reservation.
All Sky’s stress bleeds away, and his gorgeous smile takes over his face. “You gonna wine me and dine me?”
“And dance you, in that order.” I lie back on the hotel pillow and hold my phone up.
“Dance me? Hmm, that sounds fun.” He rubs his sweaty neck, and I groan.
“I’d pay anything to be there and lick the sweat off you,” I murmur, because these walls can be thin and, as a rookie, I don’t need to add fuel to the team’s shit-talking flames.
“I have one more video. Should I save it until tomorrow, right before you come home?” He peels his shirt off, and I stare. “No, okay then.” Sky shrugs, pretending he’ll do either, but the glint in his eyes gives his lust away.
“I should land at 11:30 p.m., and I’ll get a car service to your house. You’d better be ready,” I threaten, pursing my lips so they don’t turn up.
“I’m always ready for you.”
Tomorrow night can’t come soon enough.
“Maher, reservation for two,” I tell the host. The guys were helpful in choosing a great place to take Sky. Everyone had their very strong opinions on the best restaurant. I chose City Steak because we’ll get a delicious meal, but it’s not overly pretentious.
“This place is great. It’s not what I pictured.” Sky swivels to get the 360 view.
“You doubt me? What did you expect?” I ask, as the host leads us to our table.
“Stuffy, white tablecloths, old people…” he lists and trails off. “These chandeliers are killer. I’d love something like them for my entryway. Very dramatic.” They provide subtle, intimate lighting along with wall sconces and table candles.
After the host leaves, I pull Sky’s seat out for him. The rich, dark wood adds to the upscale, cozy vibe.
“You’re so fancy tonight.” He flushes an adorable pink in the dim light.
“I put my fancy pants on for you.” I sit next to him.
“But I picked them out.” He reaches for my hand but stops.
I intertwine our fingers on the table, where everyone can see. “So for future dates… I should avoid white tablecloths and old people?”
“It depends on if Nonna is coming with us,” he sasses.
“On a date?” I raise an eyebrow.
“She could be our beard.” He fails at keeping a straight face.
“Maria would probably accidentally tell our secrets while she tries to feed the paparazzi.” In my peripheral vision, a server lingers near our table, so I open my menu.
“Truth.” Sky scans his oversized menu and needs both hands, so I reluctantly let him go. “Everything looks so good. It’s hard to decide.” His eyes flick to mine. “Hmm, but the escargot is tempting.”
“We could ask the server for recommendations or get that.” I take a deep breath and visualize the ice rink after the Zamboni has cleared it. He’s teasing me on purpose, but I’m more mature now.
“You turned green.” He cackles. “The bathrooms are that way.” Sky points.
“Someone thinks it’s funny to ruin a date.” I shoot him a scathing glance.
“Oops, sorry.” His hand covers mine.
“Gotcha,” I boom, and he slaps my arm. “You get what you give.”
“Fair.” Sky leaves his hand on mine. “Did Logan send you the VIP passes?”
“Yes,” I grumble because I don’t need his friend to get us into the club, but Sky’s so excited I couldn’t say no.
