“I still need more coffee,” I grumble, and Riot fills up my cup again, earning a kiss from me. “Thank you.”
He smiles and then yawns. “I think it’s safe to say the last few days have caught up to us.”
“Absolutely,” I agree, taking another huge swig of coffee.
“You were saying Jynx messaged?” Jensen asks, when I once again don’t continue what I was saying.
Which may or may not be because I forgot that I was saying anything in the first place.
“Oh, erm,” I start, only to get interrupted by Wynnie barking and the front door opening. I grin, “She’s on her way up.”
“Coffee,” Jynx mutters as she walks in, looking as tired as we do, and heads straight to get a cup and pour herself one in the biggest mug that she can find.
“Hey, guys,” Malachi greets us and then yawns.
The others just wave halfheartedly as they all make themselves coffee too and then sit down with the rest of us.
“So, what’s the plan?” Rome asks after a while of quiet munching.
“We’ve got to clear and sort the house so that it’s ready for the party tonight. Help Rafe with the food and then set everything up. It shouldn’t take too long with all of us. Lyric and the guys aren’t able to help today. They’re all exhausted, but they will be here for the party. Everyone else is arriving later for the party. Elijah, Pete, and the guys will be heading out in the early hours of the morning, so we aren’t going too late,” Trick explains.
“Jynx and I can help out for a bit, but then we’re heading down to Pete’s to reel in his packing at the request of Elijah, who apparently tried to cut down Pete’s bags several times and is now calling in backup. We were heading down there to help anyway. Zemi is going to meet us down there, and the guys are coming up here,” I add, my brain finally kicking back online.
Rafe grins, “Thank god, Zee is an incredible chef. He helped me out loads in the kitchen yesterday, and he actually has experience running a kitchen, which was extremely helpful because I had no idea how to organize everyone. He can help with this evening's food. I’m sure he won’t mind. He seems to love it as much as I do.”
“Good,” Cash smiles. “Remember though we don’t need anything fancy, and if you want to order pizzas from that place in town, that would be more than good enough, and everyone would be happy with it.”
Rafe shakes his head and grins, “Nah. Now that I know Zee is coming, we’re good. I am going to need most of you to help though.”
“Consider it done,” Ace immediately agrees with a wide and innocent smile.
“Not you,” several of us say at once.
“Every time you set foot in the kitchen, you set something on fire,” Riot points out.
“Not every time,” Ace retorts, trying not to smile.
Rip raises his eyebrow. “You set the kitchen on fire this morning.”
“What?” Malachi asks with surprise. “When did that happen?”
Rip chuckles, “When the rest of you went to get in the car, Ace forgot he had something in the oven.”
Ace grimaces. “Whoops, my bad.”
“You can help me get some wood for the fires, and hang up the banner,” Jensen tells him.
“I can do that,” Ace agrees with a smile.
“Oh, before I forget, because everything is about to get super busy again,” Cash starts, and we all look at him curiously. “My mom spoke to me yesterday at the wedding. She was a few drinks in, so I’m not sure she was supposed to tell me, but there’s something going on with my dad's side of the family.”
“The one he disowned, before you were even born?” Rage asks with surprise.
“Yeah, that was my reaction too. She didn’t say much after that, but she’s worried, and dad was too busy dancing for me to get him to talk seriously about anything, so I was wondering if we could head out to Serendipity for a visit and I can see how big of an issue this family thing is,” he explains, with a worried frown.
“Remind me what happened again?” Mason asks curiously.
“I don’t really know much. All I know is that they were into stuff that dad didn’t agree with. Illegal stuff. It was a whole family thing,” Cash starts.
