“Don’t worry,” Luc says, immediately trying to reassure Zemi. “The gates shut down and locked them in before they could get out with us. I’m going to need the name of your friend who made them because having a gate that detects danger and shuts down, keeping the place safe, is fucking genius. I want them at the cabin.”
“I’ll get you his number,” Wilder says with a smile. “There’s some really clever tech involved.”
“Thanks, man,” I reply with a grateful smile.
“I better go and deal with them,” Raid says with a weary sigh. It’s obvious that this happens quite often and that Raid is more than fed up with dealing with it.
Saint starts bouncing. “You don’t need to. Cash told them to fuck off, and they got in the cars, with their tails between their legs.”
“It was beautiful,” Zee says with a happy bounce.
Raid stares for a moment, something flashing across his expression so quickly that I can’t identify it.
“Oh, in that case, thanks, guys. I’m getting so fucking fed up with dealing with their shit. It’s nice not to have to for a change,” Raid replies with a smile.
I nod, “Anytime. We enjoyed it, more than we should probably admit. If you need any help with them again, let us know.”
“That would be great, actually,” Zemi replies. “They might get the fucking message if they’re met with violence every time.”
“What’s the deal with them?” Ever asks curiously. “Why can’t you guys use violence to get rid of them? It sounds like they have no problem at all using violence against you if they get the chance.”
Zemi gives the same short and sweet response that Saint and Zee gave us. It’s clear to everyone in the room that it’s not the whole story, but no one is going to say anything because, at the end of the day, if they don’t want to tell us, they don’t have to.
It’s none of our business. We’ll still help them if they need us to, we don’t need the whole story in order to do that. They are our friends and they need us, so we’re there for them.
It’s as simple as that.
Apparently, while the four of us have been gone, everyone decided to watch a movie. Ever and Zemi realized that there was one that they wanted to watch, and since we’re all so busy, they decided to watch it now while we’ve got the time.
It’s quite a good movie to be fair. I didn’t have high hopes when they told me what it was about, but I was pleasantly surprised. The guy's cinema is amazing, huge comfy chairs, blankets, seat warmers, and so many awesome snacks. By the time that we’re done, it’s late and Ever’s started yawning again. To be honest, as lovely as it has been to be here and spend time with them all, I am more than ready to head home.
I want my bed.
Preferably with Ever in it.
That violence is still stirring within me, and although it is always there because it’s simply a part of who I am, I’m not usually as aware of it as I am right now. I think it’s because I enjoyed the fight so much, and it was over far too quickly for my liking.
I like it when they take a bit longer and I can cause a bit more damage. I am aware of how fucked up that is.
“Thanks for having us over, guys,” Ever says as she hugs Zemi.
“Any time,” Zemi grins. “I’ll text you.”
“We’ll let you know what’s happening with the Hunt case,” Trick says to Raid.
“Sounds good,” he smiles. “We’ll be ready to go as soon as you need us. I’ll get Mr. R to send over any of the information that we need.”
“Good idea,” Trick replies. He continues thoughtfully, “I’m reasonably sure that you guys are as caught up as we are, but the case is so complicated, it’s probably best to check.”
Raid nods, “We can do that. As I said, we’re working with a light load at the moment anyway.”
“Thanks, man,” Trick grins, clapping him on the shoulder.
We all load back up in the cars. Give the others one last wave and then head out through the now darkened woods and back to the gates.
I never did get the number for the guy that makes them, but I’m not texting Raid now. That would mean moving in order to get my phone, and Ever’s currently lying on my chest, her hand under my shirt and resting on my stomach.
There isn’t a single thing in the world that could get me to move right now.
