I open my mouth.
Close it again.
Annoyingly, she has a point.
I’ve become so focused on defining what Cal and I are—or making sure we never become anything—that I’m creating problems we don’t even have yet.
“So I just…” I hesitate. “Try to be casual?”
“Exactly.”
“Have sex with him, enjoy myself and avoid developing feelings.”
Sydney points a fry at me. “Now you’re getting it.”
“Yeah.” I nod slowly. “I suppose I can do that.”
My heart gives a small, skeptical thud.
“Details later.” I mime zipping my lips.
Sydney pouts. “The women in this house are so boring.”
“Anyway, speaking of hot pop stars…” I steal one of her fries. “Did you enjoy hanging out with the Luca Castellano last night?”
Her entire face changes.
“No. He’s a douchebag.”
A laugh bursts out of me. “What?”
“You heard me.”
“The same Luca Castellano you’ve been obsessed with for years?”
“I was obsessed with his face. Unfortunately, there’s a personality attached to it.”
“It can’t be that bad.”
“It is. And I will not be discussing it further.” She reaches for another nugget with unnecessary force. “Cal is a nice pop star. Luca is a degenerate.”
I laugh again.
Sydney will forgive almost anything if the man committing it has good bone structure, so this is serious.
“What did he do?”
“Nothing.”
“That sounded extremely convincing.”
“He was annoying.”
“You usually like annoying! All your exes are super annoying.”
She narrows her eyes at me. “Drop it, Bea.”
I hold my hands up. “Fine.”
