Honestly, that part made sense but the way Master physically winced said Daddy was just a bit frustrated…and probably loud.
“So they decided a child’s brain would be more adaptable.” Daddy’s careful tone felt like a bomb clicking down, ready to explode any second. “A child.”
How long did I have before he lost it?
Chapter 25
Zorin
“A child, Raxius. An infant!”
I was an amazing Daddy and did not let Shiloh see that my emotions were fluctuating slightly.
“They gave that spell to infants!”
All I had to do was stir and breathe and ask questions in an outwardly neutral tone. I wasn’t going to scare Shiloh or worry him. I just needed to get enough information to decide how to help him and our people.
“No one really knows if it’s magical changes or if there’s some kind of genetic component at this point.” Shiloh shifted in his chair before standing up and walking into the sitting area.
He shrugged as he studied the wall shelf with the books and small decorations I had brought with me. “We’re always really young when the spell starts to affect us so no one really knows how much is new and how much we might be born with…like how animals have instincts they’re born with.”
He was not an animal in that sense but pointing it out would be rude.
Or something like rude because my bond with Raxius seemed to be flashing danger signs like we were in an Earth movie.
Where had he seen those?
“What changes did your mother see when you were an infant?” Calm. Neutral. I was a very good Daddy that didn’t scare my mate in any way.
“Um, she said she could feel a change in my magic and that she just knew.” Frowning, he paused like he was working hard to pull up the information. “Yeah, the last couple of my relatives all described it similarly. Just feeling a shift in the baby’s innate magic.”
A baby.
“That’s good information to know.” Raxius was sounding much calmer than I liked. He needed to be slightly frustrated as well. “I think we need to start taking notes about those kinds of things even if we never show anyone else.”
Something about the response had Shiloh nodding and smiling. “That’s a good idea.”
Logic.
I needed to give him logic and support.
“We can sit down after dinner and start figuring out what other information would be helpful to document.” I could do that calmly and rationally. “But if we get to something you don’t want to talk about, you just need to safeword or let us know.”
Shiloh had been so calm about it, I wasn’t sure what might upset him at this point. His smile was not helping me decide either. “I’ve always hidden this because we were told how important it is not to talk about it, so let me know if I’m not doing it right or something is confusing.”
Air in.
Air out.
Air in.
Air out.
“Why did they only keep track of the lineage?” Raxius asked a good question but it seemed to be designed to give me a moment to think based on the soothing feelings coming through the bond.
He was getting a lot of practice doing that and had significantly improved since the first time he tried it.
“Weren’t there other things like our language and history that would be more important?” Raxius was very smart and I was going to have to remember how good he was at compartmentalizing, as English called it. “The decision just sounds odd.”
