“Shit! Bro!”
The other guy runs over, grabbing the guy in my arms and pulling him away, checking him over. I let out a breath, not realizing that I’d been holding it. I awkwardly shuffle back over to Hazel, watching the two guys interact.
The other guy, the one who was doing the spinning, is about the same height as the first guy. He’s wearing a backward cap on his head, a tank top, and some loose cargo shorts. His shoulders are broad and strong, yet, as he touches the first guy, he’s so tender.
Hazel was right, they’re both incredibly handsome.
They seem so opposite yet I can’t help but suddenly feel like an intruder as they check on each other.
“I’m so sorry, Kassian! I didn’t think you’d go flying like that. Are you okay?”
“I’m fine, Nix,” Kassian murmurs, a pretty blush across his freckled cheeks. “Someone caught me.”
Nix and Kassian. That’s their names. Why the fuck does my stomach feel all weird all of a sudden? They both look over at me and smile.
Nix gives the two of us a wave. “Well, having a seer show up is always handy,” he says with a grin.
Something inside of me ignites. “Sorry, a what?”
Chapter Two
Kassian
I can feel that my face is on fire. I touch my own chest, willing my heart to stop racing. First, I was thrown from a chair which was incredibly exciting but also stupid and dangerous. Then a handsome older man had caught me in his strong arms.
I’m not one to allow myself to be a damsel in distress but if it allows me to be held by handsome strangers then maybe I should think about doing stupid shit like this more often!
I can’t help but glance over at him again, taking him in. He’s taller than me with curly white hair, an incredibly handsome smile that makes his eyes crinkle, and big, gentle hands that are strong enough to catch a grown man.
When our eyes met, I swear, I could have swooned.
Now I’m being touched by Nix. His hands are gentle yet insistent, checking me over, making sure I’m okay. His face is so close and I can smell his deodorant. My knees feel weak and I’m glad he’s holding me, otherwise I would actually faint right now.
The problem with working with your best friend is that it makes hiding your giant crush on him near impossible. Thank Christ that Nix is so oblivious to stuff like this.
“Well,” Nix says, finally letting me go and taking a step away from me. I immediately miss the touch. It feels like a piece of my heart steps away right along with him. “Having a seer show up is always handy.”
I turn towards the man across the table from us. His face turns to one of shock. He stares at us with wide eyes before he blurts out, “sorry, a what?”
Nix and I look at each other before turning back towards him. I lean my hip against the table, crossing my arms over my chest. “A seer,” I say gently. “Someone who can catch glimpses of things before they happen.”
“I’m not. Sorry, no. You must be mistaken. We’re here for my daughter.”
I look to the man’s right, seeing a woman standing beside him. She’s tall and thin with a head of dark, thick hair. She smiles and it’s identical to the man’s.
“Hi,” she says, waving a hand at us. “I’m Hazel. It’s nice to meet you two! I dragged my dad along for moral support. This is Dean.”
“It’s nice to meet you as well,” I say, bowing my head slightly.
Nix rubs the back of his neck. “Sorry for assuming. I swear I saw you moving over there, like you knew exactly where Kassian was going to be thrown.”
“That’s true,” Hazel says, looking over at her dad. “You knew, didn’t you?”
“Yes,” Dean admits, rubbing at his face. “But I don’t know how I knew! I’m having such a strange day,” he murmurs to himself.
I look over at Nix. Nix looks at me. Then we both look over at Dean and Hazel, silently in agreement.
“Which of you wants to go first?”
