“Happens to the best of us,” he says easily. “Honestly, I’m flattered. And relax, I’m not going to disappear after the job’s done.”
“Oh my God,” I snap, scrambling off his chest so fast the blankets tangle around my legs. “I am not crying about you. Your ego is actually unbelievable.”
I grab my robe from the floor and yank it on.
“Come on, Grace,” Drew says, watching me with obvious amusement. “You can barely stay away from me for twelve hours.”
“That’s because you follow me everywhere,” I shoot back.
“Right. If that’s what you need to tell yourself.”
“You are genuinely delusional.”
“And yet,” he says lazily, stretching his arms behind his head, completely naked and far too smug for a man in his position, “you still snuck down here in the middle of the night to see me.”
Heat floods my face.
“God, I hate you.”
“No, you don’t,” he says, smiling wider. “That’s kinda the problem.”
I don’t answer. I just storm out of the guest house before he can say anything else.
I go to my bedroom and open the GirlTalk Unfiltered and click “new post.”
Update: I need some real talk.
I’ve had yet another lapse in judgment with the same man I mentioned before—the one who works for my family. This has now happened an embarrassing number of times.
In my defense, he’s extremely persistent. I can’t keep him off me. He’s also deeply arrogant, and one of the most insufferable people I’ve ever met.
Unfortunately, he’s also annoyingly comforting to be around, which has made everything way more complicated. BUT, he’s now convinced I’m emotionally attached to him, and his ego has exploded to catastrophic levels.
The problem is we’re constantly around each other. Every time I try to create distance, we end up alone again—and my judgment instantly collapses.
So, practical question: How do you actually stop sleeping with someone when insane attraction and constant proximity keep sabotaging you?
Practical advice only, please.
As usual, the replies flood in.
@user4821: this cannot be real
@chaosandwine: “This has now happened an embarrassing number of times…” girl, are you tripping and falling directly onto this man’s dick every few business days???
@softboundaries: “Create distance” usually means you stop sleeping with him, not just dramatically announcing it and then ending up alone with him again.
@anonymousowl: Babe… you’re not “losing judgment.” You’re in love with him and it’s showing.
Absolutely not. I twist my face in disgust. In his dreams.
@chaosandwine: Loving how she calls him insufferable and arrogant but then immediately says he’s “annoyingly comforting.” Make it make sense.
@anonymousowl: This isn’t “proximity making me weak.” This is you actively choosing the man every single time and then writing a 400-word essay about how you totally don’t want him.
I slam my laptop shut.
They don’t get it. Clearly.
