“Okay, Sparrow, you’re with me,” I said, nodding at Vengeance. “Stay with Sapphire. Blade and I will take this.”
We headed upstairs, leaving the wailing party guests behind, and I sighed in relief. Sparrow laughed as Blade chuckled.
“Feeling it, were you?” Sparrow teased.
“They’re so annoying.”
We stopped at the top of the stairs. “Oh, fuck,” I exclaimed. “Get back, now!”
The entire area in front of us was covered with a sickly green fog. I recognised it from the motel. “Is that…?” Sparrow asked.
“Knockout gas. We’re being watched. Who the fuck is this?” I hissed as we rushed downstairs.
Sapphire looked up, confused. “What happened?”
“The whole floor up there is filled with that shit that knocked us out,” I replied.
“How? How the hell is this happening?” Sapphire snarled.
“I don’t know, but someone’s freaking studied too many horror movies,” I snapped.
“I can’t sense anyone. If people are up there, they’ve natural shields,” Belladonna stated worriedly. “I don’t like being blind.”
I reached out and squeezed her shoulder.
“So we’re trapped down here?” Priest murmured, eyeing the townies with concern.
“Yeah,” I ground out.
“I saw a sewer cover,” he mentioned.
“You expect us to trawl through the sewers?” Sapphire exclaimed.
“Got a better idea?”
“Wait, they’re not sewers; there was an underground tunnel system,” Hatton interrupted.
“Tunnels have to lead somewhere,” I said, and Blade nodded.
“Where?” I asked Priest.
He led the way, and he, Wylde, and Cassidy pulled it up.
“You want us to go down there?” a woman demanded.
“I don’t expect you to do shit. I don’t care. But my club’s heading down,” Sapphire replied.
Tinkerbell dropped before anyone could stop her, and Warrick leapt straight after her.
Blade cursed and followed.
“I’m not going down there,” the woman stated.
“Fine. I don’t owe you anything. Royal Harlots, move,” Sapphire ordered.
“You can’t leave us!” a man yelled.
“Dude, we’re trapped with no way out apart from that. We’re taking it; I don’t care what you do,” Sapphire replied as Wylde and Cassidy helped the each of the club drop. Priest dropped and helped Warrick catch them, lowering them gently.
