The way we fit together, our convergent mind-reading responses to each other, even the perfect way he used his tongue… It was like he was designed for me.
Pure chemistry.
The tips of his fingers dragged along the outside of my thighs, lifting my wool skirt. He pulled back to look at me. It took five full seconds for my dazed brain to understand what that look in his eyes meant. By the time I registered what he intended to do, his fingers had already reached the top of my thigh, sliding beneath my underwear.
The tiniest whimper escaped me, making him grin. Teasing touches had me biting my lower lip hard as he gazed down into my face. “I’ve thought about doing this every single day this week.”
“You have not!” I said, already breathless.
“You’re right. I actually thought about doing this.” He dropped to his knees, and my mind wiped clean. Obediently, I leaned back onto my elbows and let him dive under my skirt, sucking in a sharp breath at the first touch of his tongue.
When did I become this person?
I wasn’t a rule-breaker.
I didn’t do…this…at work.
My body didn’t care about those facts as his mouth did wicked, wicked things to it. I rocketed to ecstasy and fought not to scream out my pleasure for everyone to hear. Instead, I clamped a hand over my mouth and melted onto his desk, creasing all the papers beneath me.
The kinks in my neck vanished.
When he was standing over me once more, hands braced on either side, he grinned at the dazzled look on my face. “See? You missed me.”
I curled my fist around his tie and pulled him down for a kiss, luxuriating in how it felt to be his.
“I would do this all night if I could,” he said against my mouth, “but I do have to go.” He straightened his clothes and checked his reflection in a small mirror.
“Where are you going?” I slid from the desk and into the chair behind it, twirling it back and forth lazily.
“I have to run to the city for something. If you want, I can drop by Ravi’s after. Bring you all dinner.”
“That sounds fabulous.”
He laughed, a doting glint in his eyes. “As much as I like to see you blushing and unsettled, I think I prefer you all soft like this.”
I merely hummed, too warm and fuzzy to think of a witty comeback.
I felt drunk.
On him.
It was marvelous.
“See you in a few hours.” With a soft kiss on my cheek, he departed.
I gave myself a couple more minutes in his office to pull myself together, my gaze trailing toward the window as a couple walked hand-in-hand on the street below. What I wouldn’t give to be them. Carefree. Unburdened.
Sighing, I dragged my attention away. My reflection in his small mirror revealed no smudges in my makeup, and my hair was still in its ordered waves, courtesy of my ancient curling wand.
Helen had already left for the day when I returned to my desk. Several others had departed as well, but I still needed to make a few edits on my latest photo ad. I’d barely started when a low, chilling voice behind me stiffened my spine.
“May I speak with you for a moment, Miss Honeycutt?”
Turning, I found Camden Shepherd, Sr. standing behind me.
Fifty
Shep smiled, though the expression didn’t reach his eyes.
