“What exactly does Cam do for the company?” I asked.
Bennett laughed softly. “He’s a professional meddler.”
I raised an eyebrow in question.
A devilish smile spread across his face. “Director of Operations.”

The next morning, I was met first thing with a reminder email in my new Henley inbox.
From: [email protected]
Subject: Dating Policy Reminder
Good morning,
As a reminder, workplace romances are generally discouraged at Henley. For those who are interested in pursuing such relationships, please see the attached policies for appropriate avenues to take to minimize the effect on the work environment.
Feel free to see me with questions! My door is always open.
Ivy Hayes
Head of Human Resources
Henley Bourbon Co.
My face burst into flames, and I power-clicked out of it, glancing around to check if anyone was looking at me. Only Helen met my eyes.
I forced a bright smile. “Good morning.”
She hummed and turned to her computer.
As casually as I could, I pushed away from my desk and moseyed to Ivy’s office. With a knock on her open door, I poked my head in. “You got a minute?”
She spun away from her computer and smiled. “Sure thing, darlin’.”
I entered and sat. Ivy was clad in a cream dress as chic as everything else she’d worn. Vague wonderings about whether she owned anything besides sophisticated and expensive dresses crowded my mind. She probably slept in lace and silk like a queen.
“Did—um—was that email just a general reminder?”
Her expression flickered, so I scrutinized every detail while she pushed blond hair behind one ear and pasted on a smile. “Yeah, I have to send those out now and again.”
My stomach twisted. “It’s just—last night—I didn’t—that wasn’t—”
She held a manicured hand up. “No one’s in trouble here. I was asked to send a reminder. I sent a reminder.”
Every muscle in my body slowed to a stop. “Who asked you to send a reminder?”
“Shay.” She set her clasped hands on the desk and shot me a look that was both confirmatory and full of compassion.
“Oh, my god. I’m so embarrassed.” I hid my face in my hands.
“Darlin’, I have to send this policy out at least monthly.”
I lowered my voice to a whisper. “I thought he wanted to help me navigate the work stuff.”
