My throat burned. “Caleb.”
He reached for my hand.
I pulled it away. “Do you want me to terminate this pregnancy?”
His eyes filled. “We can try again later.”
Something inside my heart died instantly.
“When?”
“Blair.”
“When can we try again?”
“After the divorce.”
I nodded. “After the wedding?”
“Yes.”
“After the house?”
“If that’s what you want.”
I stared at him. All those beautiful things he’d just promised suddenly sounded like payment. It sounded like a future he was handing me in exchange for what he wanted me to give up that day.
“Okay.”
His eyebrows pulled together. “Okay?”
“Yeah.” I stood. “Okay.”
“Baby—”
“I need you to leave.”
He stood. “Blair.”
“I said okay.” Tears blurred my vision. “What else do you need from me?”
“Don’t do this.”
“Do what?”
“Shut down.”
I laughed. “I’m trying not to fall apart in front of you.”
His face crumbled. I walked toward the hallway.
“Blair.”
I didn’t turn around.
