“You’re my sister.”
“Unfortunately.”
“You have to love me.”
“No the fuck I don’t.”
“Klair.”
“I don’t.”
I rolled my eyes. “You know what I mean.”
“No. I choose to fuck with you.”
“That’s different.”
“How?”
“Because tomorrow I’m still your sister.”
“And?”
“Friends can leave… and they did. I know some of them had every right. That was something I had to learn the hard way. I know what I did changed the way some of them saw me. I know some women genuinely couldn’t be friends with someone who could knowingly sleep with a married man. I’m not saying they owed me friendship.”
I wiped my fingers. “But damn.”
My voice cracked.
“Sometimes I miss having someone who could leave and chooses not to.”
Klair didn’t say anything.
“I miss having someone who isn’t family or an employee. Someone who loves me because they just… do.”
My eyes filled.
“And sometimes I want to talk to someone who hasn’t known every stupid decision I’ve made since I was a toddler.”
Klair frowned. “I don’t remember everything.”
I burst out laughing through my tears. “Bitch, you know what I’m trying to say!”
She smiled then came around the counter. For a second, I thought she might hug me. Instead, she stole my last wing.
“Are you fucking serious?”
“You were starting to cry on it.”
“I was not!”
“It has enough salt on it already.”
I tried to snatch it back, but she dodged me.
“Give me my fucking wing!”
“No!”
