I grabbed the nearest throw pillow and launched it across the room. I paced while I called him over and over, constantly getting the voicemail.
“What the fuck?”
Five minutes passed. I grabbed my purse. Fuck staying. Fuck Caleb. Fuck three years. Fuck that apartment. I was leaving. Then someone knocked three hard knocks on the door.
I thought it was Caleb, so I yanked the door open. My entire body went cold when I saw Ravenna. She was standing directly in front of me. Her chest rose quickly, eyes red, face full of anger, and her phone in one hand.
Before I could speak, she walked right past me. No hello. No permission. Nothing. She entered the apartment like she had every right to.
I slowly closed the door and Ravenna stood in the center of the living room.
She looked around at the furniture, pictures, my purse on the table, and then her eyes found one of the framed photos of Caleb and I.
Her face turned into a smile. “So… Ms. Blair”
I couldn’t speak. She picked up the frame and looked at it before looking at me.
“This is where he keeps you.”
The words slapped me. “He doesn’t keep me.”
Ravenna laughed. “Isn’t this something.”
My face burned. “I didn’t mean—”
“How long?”
Straight to it.
I took a deep breath. “Three years.”
She froze and I saw her confidence crack. Then she laughed. “Three?”
“Yes.”
Her eyes closed and she nodded to herself. “Wow.”
I stood near the door watching Ravenna put the frame down. “Three fucking years.”
I said nothing.
She turned toward me. “And you knew he was married?”
“Yes.”
Her face changed from anger to disgust. She looked me up and down. “You knew.”
“Yes.”
“And still fucked him.”
I swallowed. “Yes.”
She laughed. “Damn.”
“I’m not going to lie to you.”
“Oh, how noble.”
