My eyes burned.
“He got his mother and siblings involved. Even our pastor.”
She laughed. “That man worked overtime trying to convince me he wanted his marriage. And eventually, stupid me believed him.”
She looked around. “Meanwhile, stupid you believed him too.”
I looked down. “Don’t.”
“What?”
“Please.”
“Please what?Spare your feelings?” She stepped closer. “You didn’t spare mine.”
That shut me up.
“You knew I was his wife and you still built all this shit with him?”
Her hand swept around the apartment. “So don’t expect me to make this easier for you.”
Her eyes moved over me. “You’re standing here looking like someone stole something from you.”
That hurt.
“You knowingly slept with someone else’s husband for three fucking years, Blair. You don’t get to stand here looking betrayed because you finally found out the married man you’ve been fucking was still being a husband.”
My eyes filled. There was nothing I could say to that. She was right.
“He told me your marriage was over.”
“And you believed him.”
“Yes.” I closed my eyes. “Apparently.”
“No, open your eyes.”
I did. Ravenna’s were wet.
“You believed that shit for three years?” Her voice cracked. “You never thought to ask me?”
“I didn’t know you.”
“You knew enough to fuck my husband.”
My face crumbled.
She laughed through her tears. “That’s the part I don’t understand about women like you.”
I flinched. “Women like me?”
“Homewreckers.”
The word hit differently from her. I’d heard mistress, other woman, side bitch, but something about homewrecker coming from the woman whose home I’d helped him betray made my stomach hurt.
Ravenna nodded slowly. “Yeah. Homewrecker. You knew there was a home.”
I couldn’t look at her.
