Trusted personnel only, obviously.
Angel:
That is so unnecessarily dramatic.
Sebastian:
Theo?
Theo:
Yeah. Be there soon.
I shook my head at the theatrics. Sebastian had started a group chat the moment he joined in as my manager. At this point, it was just a place for him and Angel to gossip, but every single time I tried to leave the chat, I was added back in by my idiot brother.
When Sebastian called for an “inner circle” meeting—since he was the only one who did—it was always at the Kazella Bar that was set up in our paddock. It was basically just a very fancy mess hall. But they did make damn good drinks and food. When I walked through the clear doors into the bar, Angel and Sebastian were already at the bartop, laughing over something.
“About damn time!” Sebastian announced as I walked up.
“It’s been less than ten minutes.”
“We were already here,” Angel announced, sipping on a bubbly lime-green drink and smiling.
“Great.” I rolled my eyes. “What’s up, brother?”
“Oh, right.” He looked to Angel, and they both were failing at holding in another laugh.
“Do you remember the reason for calling me?”
“I texted, actually.”
“Jesus, Seb. What do you want?”
“We wanted to know how the interview went!” Angel spoke up.
“It was fine,” I grumbled.
“Oh yes, give us nothing.” Seb rolled his own eyes back at me, ever so dramatically.
“I need a fecking drink,” I cursed and sat down on the empty stool after Angel moved over and patted the seat. Her eyes were wide, waiting for the update.
“Drink please!” Sebastian announced to the bartender.
“No.” I shook my head at my brother, who knew I didn’t drink before a race. After was an entirely different story though. “Soda water is fine. Thank you,” I said to the bartender who had come over at Sebastian’s beckoning.
“Control yourself brother, don’t want to do anything too crazy!” Sebastian laughed into his drink.
“Hell, how much have you had?”
“Only two!” he said, holding up his hands in defense.
“Sure.”
“Sooo…?” Angel asked, singing the word as if it was some tune.
“So, he saw the love of his life after a decade, and his heart is all twisted up about it. Obviously!” Sebastian cut in, waving a straw around before plopping it back into the drink and taking a long sip.
“Damn,” Angel sighed.
