I handed the phone back to Liam. “Turn the brightness down, it’s too bright.’

“Did they say anything about the injury?” Liam asks, taking the phone from me to adjust the brightness.

“She just shined a fucking light in my face and said she was trying to rule out a major concussion. I’m pretty sure my fucking dog could tell you I have one.”

“Do you need me to drive you home?”

I put my hand up, shaking my head. “No. I can drive. I’ll be fine.”

“I don’t know if I feel comfortable as your friend letting you drive home, Wy.” Liam tells me, putting a hand on my shoulder. “I’ll drive you home. It’ll probably make Eliana feel a lot better too.”

Fuck. I can’t even begin to imagine what she’s feeling right now. She had to see that happen on TV. I needed to let her know that I’m fine.

I don’t argue with him any further, taking my phone back from him, going back to my messages, going to text the one person I actually wanted to hear from.

Wyatt: the dirt actually wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be..

Eliana: jesus christ, wyatt.

Eliana: scared the fuck out of me.

Eliana: are you okay??

Wyatt: besides the fact that I feel like someone is beating my head with a hammer? peachy.

Eliana: make sure Liam drives you home. Do NOT even think about driving.

Wyatt: I’ll be fine.

Eliana: NO.

Wyatt: fine.

I read the message, locking my phone and lay back on the table, putting my hat over my eyes.

“I’ll grab your things, then I’ll just drive you home, and we can come get your car at another time,” Liam tells me before heading back to the clubhouse to grab my things.

As much as I wanted to fight him on it and drive myself home, it was the smart decision. I didn’t want to depend on other people to take care of me. This was just a concussion; I should be able to take care of myself.

Though the way my head pounded with every step I took was an indicator that tonight was not the night to be stubborn.

Chapter 24

Eliana

GOING TO VISIT MY PARENTS felt like the most nerve wracking thing I’ve done in a while. In normal situations, I have no issue going to see them. However, my current situation was far from normal.

Only Mom knows that I’m working and living with Wyatt. I don’t know how Dad is going to react when he finds out that I’m working and living with him. That’s what made me the most nervous – seeing his reaction to me telling him.

I can’t even say for sure if we’re going to give this relationship thing another go. Everything was so up in the air with what we were defining ourselves as. Since sleeping together, Wyatt and I haven’t even discussed those events. We’ve just let things…happen.

I had a gut feeling that Mom was going to poke and pry for information. She was going to try and see if I would slip up and tell her something, anything that would indicate that Wyatt and I were working things out.

I sat in my car for a moment, contemplating if I really wanted to go in and face the inevitable.

I eventually took a deep breath, putting my keys in my purse before checking my phone again, seeing Wyatt had texted me.

Wyatt: Hoping today goes well for you.
