‘This whole “I love you” business. There’s nothing more boring in this world. A guy can’t say anything more boring than that. A girl can’t say anything more boring than “Love you too”.’
‘You are boring.’
‘Fine, I am boring, but aren’t the other reasons enough to get married?’
‘No. And listen, next time don’t take the corner seats, you talk too much during the film.’
People in love carry an entire city or an entire world within themselves. A city that thrives in the middle of a movie hall, on a corner seat. A city that becomes itself while ignoring all the stares on the seat of a metro. A city familiar only to those who have either found theirs, or lost it forever. All of us have lost countless cities, so many that those cities might have actually come together and become a new world by themselves.
M for Mobile
The day and the night come close to each other every day, but they are never close enough to become one. Rather like Chandar and Sudha. Both had come close, but Sudha didn’t want to get married. Watching people in the process of getting divorced all day had put her off the idea of marriage completely. She felt marriage was the end of everything.
Chandar understood that, but he thought that he would be able to cajole Sudha into marriage one day.
‘Chandar, how many times have I told you not to check my mobile phone?’
‘I just check who flirts with you in court.’
‘Nobody flirts with me in court.’
‘Why?’
‘Because I flirt with all the smart guys.’
‘I see. What do they do when you flirt?’
‘They flirt back.’
‘Then what do you do?’
‘If I like the guy, I go out for lunch with him.’
‘And if he turns out okay there as well, then?’
‘Then I take things forward.’
‘How do you do that? Teach me to do that as well. I have been stuck with this one girl for so long.’
‘What’s the big deal in that? I just date them once or twice.’
‘Haven’t liked anyone till now?’
‘I have. Initially, everyone is fine, but the moment they start turning romantic I get turned off a little bit.’
‘You don’t like romance?’
‘Not even a bit.’
‘Then what do you like?’
‘That someone loves me without any romantic feelings.’
‘How does one do that?’
‘I don’t know; that’s why I keep flirting. You don’t do it in your office?’
‘I do.’
