Chapter 4

Ravena

It’s like I’ve jumped into the pages of one of my love stories and am living it in real time.

Kissing a hot, naked gargoyle on top of Moonbell Tower…

How is this real life?

My ears are still ringing a little—although way less than they would be if my thoughtful mate hadn’t covered my ears—as we kiss on top of the whole town.

I love the feel of him—the strength and power. The size of him. He’s so tall and big. This man can take on armies. He’s been waiting for me for centuries.

It’s all so incredibly romantic.

When we finally part, I look up at him with my cheeks all flushed. My whole body is flushed, heat and desire and lustful need circulating through me like it’s finally woken up from a long slumber and is trying to make up for lost time.

“Do you believe me now?” Tharion asks in that deep sexy voice I can’t seem to get enough of. “That we’re mates?”

I look into his gorgeous silvery eyes and feel my legs weaken. I remember Father reading from that old book this morning—It says here that their mate can wake them up.

I kissed him and woke him from his stone slumber.

And now every part of my body is being pulled toward him.

I’ve never been interested in a man in my life, and now here I am, ready to strip down and bare everything to him—my mind, my soul, my body. I want him to have it all.

He is my mate. There’s no other way. I feel drawn to him like I’m under a spell.

I’ll never want anyone else.

“I do,” I say, licking his taste off my lips with a little moan. “I believe it.”

That gorgeous stoic face lights up with a smile. My heart aches. He’s so beautiful.

“Good,” he says, relief washing over him. “That’s good."

Our nice little moment passes and then I’m suddenly looking around, very aware that we’re on top of a tower, he’s naked, Father will be home soon with murderous intent, and the powerful Lord Harshballow wants him dead.

“So, what do we do now?” I ask, my mind racing.

His wings ripple as he looks at the town below. “I’m not sure. I’ve dreamed about meeting my mate, I just never got past that moment and thought about what to do after.”

I take his big hand and look at the differences—white skin on charcoal gray, long thick fingers, sharp claws. We’re so different, but none of that matters. We belong together and we’ll figure out all the rest.

“Okay,” I say, taking a deep breath. “We just need a plan.”

“A plan?”

“Yeah, a plan. We can’t go back to my house. Father wants you dead.”

“He does?” Tharion asks, lifting a dark eyebrow. “Why?”

“It’s nothing personal,” I quickly say. “He’s the town executioner and got hired by Lord Harshballow to… you know... Kcckhhk,” I say, running my index finger across my throat.

He frowns.

“But obviously we’re not going to do that anymore,” I say, rambling on. “But maybe we stay away from my house for today. Where else can we go? Do you have a place? Where would you go if I wasn’t here? If you never met me?”
