Just the GPS coordinates.
As though the image was an answer enough.
I stared at the scribbled numbers. Rafe pulled up his phone. He was already typing. But he didn’t need to tell me.
“It’s the park,” I said quietly.
“How did you know?”
“Because that’s where I asked her to marry me.”
I folded the image and tucked it against my palm before I turned away. “Because somebody wants me to remember.”
Rafe shook his head. “It’s a trap.”
I gave a single nod. “I know. I hesitated for a second. “I still have to go.”
Malek was already pulling his phone from his pocket. “Not without backup.”
His thumbs moved quickly across the screen.
One message.
That’s all it took.
It was just like old times.
I turned and walked.
This time…
I didn’t wait for anyone.
“Alaric…” Rafe fell into step bedside me. “Think about this.”
My thoughts were already somewhere else.
Nyssa.
The photograph.
Theresa.
Lily.
“I don’t need to.”
We pushed back through the market. The noise returned around us.
Forklifts.
Voices.
Machinery.
None of it reached me.
All I could see were the crosshairs resting over my family. The threat echoed through my skull like distant gunfire. I climbed into the SUV. The photograph never left my hand. Rafe slid behind the wheel. The engine roared to life. As we pulled away, a black Ford Bronco surged out from the loading bays and fell in behind us. Rafe checked the mirror once. Then looked back to the road.
