Ghost watched the room… and them. Brick stood by the door. Rafe over a table covered in phones, maps, and hastily written notes. And in the center of them… Alaric.
He wasn’t speaking loudly. Didn’t need to.
“Expand south.”
Rafe nodded. “Already doing it.”
“CCTV?”
“Guild has two teams pulling private cameras.”
“Transport?”
London answered. “Covered.”
“Not enough.”
One of the twins straightened. Alaric looked toward him.
“Private strips. Freight yards. Anything that moves without questions.”
The man nodded. “Done.”
No argument.
No hesitation.
I stared. This wasn’t the man who’d held me in bed. Not the man who cut fruit. Made tea. Waited outside my bedroom because I’d asked him to. This was something else. Something all these dangerous men recognised. The Revenant.
As though he felt me looking, Alaric turned. Our eyes met. Everything in his face changed. Only for me. The coldness fractured. His gaze moved over my face. My hands. Checking. Always fucking checking.
I trembled.
He took one step toward me.
A phone rang.
Everyone stopped.
Not Alaric’s.
London’s.
He answered. “Talk.’
Silence.
His eyes sharpened. “Where?”
Every man in the room turned toward him. My heart started pounding. London’s gaze found mine. Then Alaric’s. “Guild.”
Alaric moved closer. “What?”
London held up one hand.
Listening.
My nails dug into my palms. “Is she alive?”
