“You fed me your blood.” I raise my eyebrows at him. “Does that mean we’re…?”
Lucien looks almost pissed off with me. “I’d have to drink from you, too, in order for us to be bonded. I’d have thought you’d have known that. Despite the head injury.”
“Right. Of course.” I’m blushing and have no idea why.
“You had three broken ribs and some internal bleeding. If I hadn’t fed you, you’d have died.”
“And that would have been tragic for you. Seeing as I’m your only friend.” I’m talking to him the way I usually do; using humour to gloss over the fact we don’t really talk about anything real.
But Lucien’s not playing this time.
He fixes me in his gaze and stoically says, “I do not want you to die.”
“Stop, you’re making me blush.”
“For Luna,” Lucien glances at her, “and for me.” He clears his throat. “You’re right. You are my only friend.”
Holy shit. He’s not going to start crying vampire tears is he?
“And do you always take off your friends’ clothes before helping them into bed?” Something shifts between us. The air, and the energy it holds, becomes charged with something different. Are we flirting now? Am I flirting?
“Like I said, you are my only friend.” Lucien rolls his tongue over his fangs. “And you were injured.”
“Still am.” I look down at my chest. Bruises and scratches still pepper my skin.
“My blood had important work to do inside your body. The outside is just aesthetics.” Lucien shifts a little closer. He’s the same height as me, and I wouldn’t say he’s more muscular. But he is tougher. His whole body feels stronger. Harder.
I catch myself glancing down at the crease in his pants, but instead of feeling awkward, I allow myself to very slowly raise my gaze back to him. So he knows I’ve been looking.
Without saying anything, Lucien rolls up his shirt sleeves.
Fuck, he’s hot.
I look over his shoulder at Luna. Still asleep but she should be watching this, shouldn’t she?
With one sharp bite, Lucien opens up his wrist, then uses the other hand to move the bedsheets out of the way as he drips hot blood onto my chest.
As it lands on my skin, it feels ironically like sunlight. Warm, healing.
A heavy, relieved sigh parts my lips and I lean back onto the pillows as Lucien lowers his head to my chest and uses his tongue to swirl the blood over my injuries.
When he pauses next to my throat, I slide my fingers into his hair and contemplate pressing his lips to my flesh. Something inside my veins is throbbing, remembering what he tasted like, craving the bond that will form if he tastes me, too.
But then there is a second pair of lips. Running along the curve of my shoulder. I open my eyes to find Luna standing beside the bed. She leans down and kisses Lucien, and he reaches up to pull down her top and ease her breasts out of her bra.
He takes one in his mouth, sucking ravenously on her nipple, then grabs my head and pulls me forcefully onto her other breast.
She stands, swaying a little, purring with pleasure as the two of us tease and taunt her nipples into viciously aroused peaks.
She’s wearing jeans, and she shouldn’t be.
“Take her clothes off,” I tell Lucien. “All of them.”
He stands and roughly jerks down her jeans then pulls her top over her head and unclasps her bra.
I move to the edge of the bed and sigh at the sight of her.
Bra gone, her remaining underwear is small, black, and lacy. Lucien starts to remove it and I shake my head. “I want to taste her through the fabric,” I tell him.
