“Like what?” I asked.
Morgan’s lips drew into a thin line. “It’s more what he didn’t say.”
I didn’t understand where she was going with this.
Morgan opened her mouth to speak, when Skye breezed back to the table with another round of cocktails. “Gods, someone save Reid,” she said, motioning across the bar.
Tonight, Jinxed was packed, and I craned my neck to see past the crowd to where he was chatting to a group standing around a leaner.
Morgan muttered under her breath. “Poor guy, she’s been over him like a rash all evening. She cannot take a hint.”
I frowned, having not noticed, struggling to see the woman in question. Finally, the crowd parted, allowing me to spot the obvious brunette. I leaned back against the booth again. “He doesn’t really help himself. It’s not like he flat-out tells them he’s not interested,” I countered.
Skye set the tray of drinks on the table between us. “Yeah, but look at him. He’s not interested tonight.”
A quick glance in his direction confirmed her suspicion. Whenever he tried to dodge her, speaking with someone else, she was there, rubbing up against him like a bitch in heat. Usually, he would smile and continue the conversation as politely as possible. Tonight, even from this far away, I could see the disengagement in his eyes.
“Oh yeah, he’s hating it,” I agreed. It wasn’t often I saw Reid not lap up attention from women, so to see him like this was strange.
“Someone go tell her to take a hike,” said Morgan, swirling the straw in her glass and taking a sip. “The poor guy probably just wants to blow off some steam with the guys. I offered to work his shift, but he refused.”
Skye stared at me, raising a brow. “Go on, the guy needs an out.”
I knew that look. A look I’d seen from her many times. “Oh, hell no.” There was no way I would save Reid from himself.
“Double dare you.” Skye’s eyes sparkled with mischief. She knew I had a thing for Reid. She’d clocked it years ago. But she also knew I kept it on the down-low, because I don’t date friends; it was too awkward if things didn’t work out.
“If I were to kiss Reid, it would not be because you dared me,” I said, taking a drink of my Cosmopolitan. There. I said it. “But it’s not happening. He’s a friend. We’ve had this discussion before.”
Morgan eyed me closely, a brow arched. “But you’re attracted to him?”
Letting out an exasperated breath, I looked at Skye to help me out. She pursed her lips, a hint of a smile threatening to part them.
“Anyone with eyes knows Reid’s hot,” I countered.
Morgan tipped her head in agreement.
I folded my arms, not giving in to them. “It’s no secret. If sex had legs, he’s the walking definition of it.”
Skye looked far too happy about this admission.
“Has anything ever happened between you guys?” Morgan asked.
I shook my head. “No. Not even close.”
Morgan sat back in her seat, swirling her glass in front of her. “Why not? You’re stunning. He’s hot. You already know each other.”
“He’s a friend.”
She smirked and leaned forward to keep what she said next between the three of us. “Friends with occasional benefits?”
I groaned, smiling as I did so. “Don’t tempt me. I haven’t had any action in the bedroom in a long time.”
A huge grin brightened her face, and it was then I knew we had drunk far too much; this conversation would never happen if we were sober.
“Well, then…” She made a gesture to Reid, who still looked awkward as all hell. She turned her attention back to Skye. “What do you think?”
The cheek in Skye’s eyes matched her grin. “I think the sex on legs needs saving. Right now.”
