Mine. Mine. MINE.
“Declan.” Cillian’s voice sounds far and off. He knows. I can tell by how he’s looking at me. Not like my lawyer. Like one Alpha looking at another one who’s about two seconds from losing his shit. “Don’t,” he says, real quiet.
Then she steps around him.
Jesus Christ.
She’s beautiful. I don’t mean pretty. I mean she’s so fucking beautiful that for a second, even the wolf shuts up so we can both look.
Deep brown skin, smooth as silk. Huge dark eyes. A full, soft mouth, hanging open a little, like she forgot what she was about to say. She’s maybe thirty. She’s got on a cream-colored blouse tucked into dark pants, some expensive lawyer outfit, and it’s doing fuck all to hide what’s under it. Big, heavy tits. A waist I could get my hands around. Wide hips. A soft, round belly. Thick thighs I want wrapped around my head. She’s got black curls falling around her shoulders, little gold hoops in her ears, and heels on. In a maximum-security prison. She’s polished, perfect; she’s got no fucking business being in a place like this.
And she’s looking at me like I just hit her with the same truck that hit me.
I’m a scarred beast in an orange jumpsuit, chained to a table, with claws out and my eyes going gold. Any woman with half a brain would be backing out that door.
She’s not backing up.
Her hand goes to her chest. She breathes in deep through her nose. I watch her pupils blow wide open. And her scent changes. It goes thick, and rich, and so fucking sweet I groan out loud.
Slick.
She’s getting wet. For me. Right now, right there, in front of my lawyer.
“Zahra?” Cillian says sharply.
Zahra. Her name’s Zahra.
She takes one step toward me.
That’s it. That’s all it takes.
* * *
I’m on my feet. The chair goes flying. My gums are burning, my fangs are coming down, and my spine’s cracking.
“Mine.”
It comes out wrong. Too deep. Half me, and half him.
Her eyes go huge. But she’s not scared! And that’s what does it. That’s what fucking ruins me. She’s looking at the most feral thing in this whole building, and she’s not scared of it. She looks… fucking hungry.
Cillian gets between us. I snarl at him.
“Declan.”
“Move.”
“No.”
My wolf doesn’t give a fuck that I’ve known this man going on two decades. He’s standing between us and our omega. That’s wrong. Everything about that is wrong.
“Move, Cillian.”
“Get control of yourself!”
“Declan?”
She says my name. Real soft. Like she’s trying it out.
