Buried Secrets

Understanding bloomed in his expression, followed immediately by desire. He closed the distance between them in three steps, hands finding her waist with the certainty of familiarity despite their newness to each other. This kiss held none of the surprise of their first encounter. Only recognition, intention, the conscious choice to continue what had begun hours earlier.

Kaitlin’s fingers traced the strong line of his jaw, the slight roughness of evening stubble beneath her touch. His mouth moved against hers with increasing urgency, the controlled restraint of their earlier exploration giving way to deeper hunger. She pressed closer, gratified by the evidence of his desire and the low sound he made when her hips aligned with his.

“Upstairs,” Matt murmured against her neck. The word lay somewhere between suggestion and plea.

They navigated the narrow staircase without breaking contact, shedding clothing as they went—her sweater abandoned on the steps, his shirt tossed on the banister. By the time they reached his bedroom, Kaitlin’s hair had fallen from its careful arrangement, tumbling across bare shoulders as Matt’s hands worked the clasp of her bra. She couldn’t get skin to skin with him fast enough.

Moonlight filtered through windows bare of curtains, illuminating their partly clothed bodies in silver and shadow. Matt paused, his gaze traveled over her exposed skin with reverence that made her flush despite the chill.

“You’re beautiful,” he said without artifice.

Kaitlin responded by reaching for his belt. They fell onto his bed in a tangle of limbs and half-removed clothing. Their laughter mingled with more urgent sounds as buttons proved stubborn and zippers caught. There was something profoundly intimate in the clumsiness; the mutual impatience exposed more than practiced seduction ever could.

When they finally lay skin against skin, the laughter faded into something deeper. Matt’s hands mapped her body with careful attention as he learned the terrain of her pleasure, the sensitive hollow beneath her ear, the curve where waist met hip, the places that made her breath catch and release in soft gasps.

Kaitlin explored him with equal curiosity as she found the unexpected sensitivity of his wrists, the way his muscles tensed when her teeth grazed his collarbone, the change in his breathing when her fingers trailed lower.

“Is this okay?” he asked as his mouth traced a path between her breasts, down the subtle ridges of her ribs, across the soft plane of her stomach.

“Yes,” she breathed. The word dissolved into a moan as he continued lower, his intentions unmistakable. Her fingers tangled in his hair, not to guide but to connect as sensation built with each deliberate stroke of his tongue.

Time became unimportant, measured only in waves of pleasure that crested and receded, and built toward something greater. When she finally shattered beneath his touch, his name escaped her lips, a sound of surprise and recognition, as if she’d discovered something unexpected.

Before she’d fully recovered, and as she drifted in the aftermath of her orgasm, Matt was moving up her body. His kiss tasted of her. She reached between them to guide him with newfound boldness.

“Wait,” he murmured against her mouth. “Protection…”

“Top drawer,” she replied. With a smile at his momentary confusion, she gestured to his nightstand. “An educated guess.”

Matt laughed as he reached for the drawer. “Presumptuous.”

“Hopeful,” she corrected.

He tore the foil packet and rolled the condom on with practiced efficiency. When he returned to her, the playfulness gave way to something more profound. Their bodies aligned with deliberate slowness, anticipation for their gradual joining. Kaitlin’s breath caught at the initial pressure, the exquisite fullness as he entered her with careful restraint. Her hands found purchase on his shoulders while he allowed her time to adjust.

“Okay?” he whispered. He held himself still with visible effort.

Kaitlin answered by lifting her hips to draw him deeper, her body communicating what words could not. The careful restraint between them unraveled as they established a rhythm, tentative at first, then increasingly confident as they learned each other’s responses. Matt’s hands slid beneath her to change the angle of their bodies in a way that made her gasp with renewed pleasure. Her legs wrapped around his waist, as she pressed her heels into the small of his back, urging him deeper.

Sweat-dampened skin slid against skin, the sounds of their breathing and occasional murmured encouragement the only interruption to the night’s silence. Kaitlin felt herself building toward another peak, the sensation different but no less intense than before. Matt’s movements grew less controlled, and his rhythm faltered as his own passion built.

“Kaitlin,” he breathed against her ear, as if the uttering of her name released a litany of tension that coiled tightly between them. “God, Kaitlin.”

The sound of her name in that broken tone pushed her over the edge. Her body tightened around him as pleasure coursed through her in waves. Matt followed moments later, his release accompanied by a sound somewhere between groan and sigh, his forehead pressed against hers.

They remained joined for several heartbeats, neither able to summon the will to separate despite the cooling sweat and trembling muscles. Eventually, Matt shifted to lie beside her, one arm draped across her waist in casual possession. The silence between them felt comfortable, replete with satisfaction and unspoken understanding.

“I didn’t plan this,” Kaitlin admitted after a while, as she stroked her fingers over his chest.

Matt’s low chuckle vibrated against her hand. “Didn’t you?”

“Well… not initially.” She smiled in the darkness. “Not until about an hour after you left my cottage.”

“I’m glad you reconsidered.” He stroked the curve of her hip with lazy appreciation.

Kaitlin propped herself on one elbow and studied his face in the moonlight. “Was the bar fight bad?”

“The usual.” Matt shrugged. “Too much alcohol, too many old grudges, too little else to do on a small island in October.” He softened as he looked at her. “But I like how the night ended.”
