He smiled. "As long as it takes, little witch."
Outside, the rain started again, soft against the windows.
For a second, I thought about the love-curse and how. . .this loving moment could be lost to me forever if Yoichi dies in a few days.
My eyes watered. “I’m scared.”
“Then, tell me who or what I should kill.”
“I don’t want the curse to take you.”
“I’m damn near a god—”
“Yoichi, I’m being serious.”
“And I’m being serious too.”
“Then, you’re cocky as fuck.”
“I think I’m pretty damned humble to be so powerful and greater than most of the creatures on this planet.”
“Yeah. . .humble.” I frowned.
“Don’t worry about your curse.” He looked down at the heart. “Already, it’s fading.”
“What?” I looked down and to my utter shock, my cocky almost-god was right.
For the first time in my life, the black had retreated from the heart’s edges, leaving a bruised violet ring where the curse must have been losing its grip. There were even parts of the heart where it had a hint of stubborn pink.
Plus, the darkness had thinned to a gray wash, like ink dissolving in water.
But the best part. . .was at the heart’s center. The black was peeling back in uneven patches.
“Oh my God.” Fresh tears spilled from my eyes. “You’re right.”
“We’re fated mates, little witch. That curse needed healing, and that is our love.”
I wiped my tears. “Then. . .what about yours?”
He sighed. “That curse. Well. . .it is much different.”
"How?"
He let out another long sigh as if he had hoped to avoid this story, but unfortunately, I would not be backing down.
"What happened, Yoichi?"

To my shock, Yoichi didn’t immediately give me an answer. Instead, he brushed a dreadlock from my forehead and tucked it behind my ear. The gold bead clicked softly against the others. “I’ll tell you about the curse, but first things first.”
I opened my mouth to argue, but then suddenly his cock’s knot moved.
